Carnival Horizon, newest in fleet, arrives in PortMiami this month

The long wait is over! Carnival Horizon, the newest ship in the cruise line’s fleet, arrives in PortMiami this month.

Get acquainted with the ship on a two-day cruise to Nassau, leaving Sept. 20. There’s just enough time — maybe — to explore all the exciting things to do on board.

Zip around in the peddle-powered SkyRide, or splash the day away at WaterWorks. Strut your stuff on stage in the Lip Sync Battle: Carnival.

Hungry? The BlueIguana Cantina serves up tacos and burritos — and it’s complimentary. So is Guy’s Burger Joint, featuring fresh-off-the-grill burgers (and a toppings bar) and hand-cut fries.

Food Network star Guy Fieri also has his name on a new venue, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse and Brewhouse. There’s a charge for the ‘cue and brew, but at lunch time there’s a special menu of barbecue dishes that are free.

Other specialty restaurants (which means an additional charge) include JiJi Asian Kitchen, Cucina Del Capitano, Seafood Shack and Bonsai Teppanyaki.

Of course there’s the buffet, bars, casino, spa and theater — things we cruisers enjoy and come to expect.

If two days are not enough, Carnival Horizon sails six- and eight-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. More information is at www.carnival.com

MEET THE ARTIST: Norwegian Cruise Line is partnering with the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Nova Southeastern University’s Guy Harvey Research Institute to host the second annual ocean conservation-themed cruise on Norwegian Escape. The ship will sail Oct. 21 from New York.

Guests will have opportunities throughout the week to meet Harvey, the marine artist, scientist, conservationist and hull artist of the Norwegian Escape.

They’ll learn about efforts by Harvey’s foundation to conserve the ocean environment, and hear from a panel of marine life experts and scientists from the university about the importance of continued support for cleaner and safer waters through conservation and sustainability efforts.

The ship will call on Port Canaveral, Nassau and Norwegian’s private island of Great Stirrup Cay. Learn more at www.ncl.com

Princess Cruises recently revealed the name of the ship it will launch in 2020: Enchanted Princess. It will be sister ship to four other Royal Class ships in the fleet: Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess and Sky Princess (arriving in fall 2019).

The 3,660-passenger Enchanted Princess is scheduled to debut June 15, 2020, sailing on a series of cruises in Europe. Bookings open Nov. 8.

The Polar Class ship will be able to operate in summer and autumn through medium first-year ice. The ship will be equipped with the latest technology, including offshore dynamic positioning capabilities, offering both comfort and safety while exploring the icy waters in the polar regions and exotic locations across the globe.

Bookings are open for the yacht’s global journeys from August 2020 through January 2021. Itineraries include Japan and the Russian Far East; Indonesia, Borneo and the Philippines; New Zealand and Tasmania; Australia and the Great Barrier Reef; and Antarctica.
