Softball: No. 5 Palm Beach Gardens holds on for victory


Brooke Matthews was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including the game-winner, helping the fifth-ranked Palm Beach Gardens softball team edge Pembroke Pines Charter 5-4 on Friday night in Palm Beach Gardens.

Jaden Walker went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Kaitlyn Robine (8-4) pitched a complete game for the Gators (14-8).

No. 1 Wellington 6, Stuart-South Fork 2: Katie Schmidt had an RBI double, Lexi Butler and Kate DeSimone each added two hits and winning pitcher Danni Farley struck out six in four innings as the Wolverines (17-2) defeated the Bulldogs in Wellington.

No. 9 King’s Academy 18, Trinity Christian 1(4): Multiple hits from Sofia Higgins, Jordan Winters, Hannah Federico, Ella Wilkerson and Margot McFadden led the Lions (15-6) to the rout of the Warriors in West Palm Beach.

Royal Palm Beach 11, Dwyer 8: Megann Linardos was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Paige Houck went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and winning pitcher Chelsea Gibbins and Nicole Hayslip each contributed a double as the Wildcats held off the Panthers in Royal Palm Beach.
