Girls basketball: Santaluces holds off Palm Beach Gardens


Whitney Howell had 16 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks, leading the Santaluces girls basketball team to a 57-53 victory over Palm Beach Gardens in a Class 9A regional quarterfinal Thursday night in Palm Beach Gardens.

Brona Jean added 16 points and five assists and Heaven Sanders contributed 10 points and five assists for the Chiefs (19-8).

For Gardens, Kiara Brown scored 21 points and Kyandra Poitier added 12.

Benjamin 52, Weston-Sagemont 22: Da’mya Preston had 18 points and eight rebounds and Emma Laszewski added 17 points and eight rebounds as the Buccaneers routed the Lions in a Class 4A regional semifinal.

Grandview Prep 61, Miami-Northwest Christian 16: Danielle Montelbano had 15 points and seven steals, Scarlett Anosier added 10 points and 10 rebounds and Alexis Romer contributed eight points, five assists and five steals as the Pride coasted past the Eagles in a Class 2A regional semifinal.

Lake Worth Christian 61, Davie-Posnack School 42: Jillian Schenk scored 29 points, Ashley Jolicoeur added 10 and Riley Mizell contributed eight as the Defenders (22-5) handled the Rams in a Class 3A regional semifinal.
