Miami Dolphins practice report: Wednesday before Jets game

UPDATE on receiver DeVante Parker (finger)

The Dolphins returned to practice on Wednesday morning, three days after winning the longest game in NFL history.

Jakeem Grant was named AFC special teams player of the week after his 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Here are some things we noticed at practice:

• DeVante Parker is suited up and playing catch with a coach at the start of practice. His right hand is bandaged up. And it does not look like it is easy for Parker, who has a broken finger, to catch. Parker missed the season opener. Director of player development Clyde Christensen and assistant coach Shawn Jefferson are watching Parker work. Parker participated in stretching before practice with his teammates. Parker then participated in receiver drills at the start of practice. At one point, Parker dumped what looked like an oven mitt for a regular glove.

• Iron man/snapper John Denney is at practice, in uniform. Denney worked through a shoulder injury suffered last week. The Dolphins have added snapper Lucas Gravelle to the practice squad. Denney has played in every Dolphins game since Nick Saban landed in South Florida.

• Guard Josh Sitton and wide receiver Danny Amendola were not immediately spotted at the start of Dolphins practice.

Miami Dolphins’ position groups of concern vs. Oakland Raiders

As much as the Raiders look like they’re spiraling and the Dolphins are surging to start the season, Miami rarely has an easy one. It’d be surprising to see Sunday’s home game against Oakland be anything other than a tight game. It’s one the Dolphins can’t afford to lose, though, if they’re going to contend...

Unanimous: Our staff says Dolphins will be 3-0 after Raiders game

Miami has more talent than Oakland, and is favored for a reason. This is a pivotal game in the Dolphins’ season. Win and earn legitimate respect from the league for a 3-0 start. Lose, and well… same old. The Dolphins have been good at home offensively and Ryan Tannehill has never had a greater variety of weapons. Miami thinks their conditioning...

Kiko Alonso returns to destructive, disruptive ways; leads neophyte Dolphins linebackers

Dolphins coach Adam Gase mentioned on Thursday that outside linebacker Kiko Alonso has been involved in defensive play-calling. Through two games this season, it is clear that Alonso has re-established himself as a tenacious, walloping force, but also that he has emerged as the trusted leader for Miami’s youthful linebackers. “The responsibility...
