Wisconsin football and basketball are always the main topics in Bucky’s Breakfast, Land of 10’s daily Badgers notebook — but we cover news, notes and analysis across Badgers sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Wisconsin football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Impact of new redshirt rule

A new NCAA rule went into effect Wednesday that will allow football players to appear in four games and not lose a year of competition. It’s a significant change and the Wisconsin State Journal’s Jason Galloway wrote about its potential impact on the Badgers earlier this year.

Brad Davison says never again

Brad Davison had what could be considered a a tough but successful freshman season, at least individually. But the team success was not what he or anyone else wanted as the Badgers missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. Davison, in his own words, said another season like that is not acceptable.

Wisconsin offense capable of big things

With a two-year starter back at quarterback, a Heisman Trophy contender in the backfield, a loaded wide receiver group and one of the better offensive lines in the country, the Badgers could put up a lot of points this season. Bucky’s 5th Quarter looks at just how explosive the unit could be.

Most important game for Wisconsin

Unlike last season, when many criticized their schedule, the Badgers have some legitimate matchups this fall. ESPN has listed the most important game for each of its preseason Top 25 teams, with one of Wisconsin’s road games getting the nod.

Big Ten coach rankings

We’ve already passed along Athlon Sports’ rankings of the Big Ten coaches, which had Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst at No. 6. The Sporting News has tried its hand at ranking the coaches in the conference and Chryst isn’t much higher on that list.

Ryan Ramczyk the key

New Orleans got former Wisconsin standout Ryan Ramczyk at the end of the first round in the 2017 NFL Draft. He went on to start all 16 games at right tackle for the Saints, and is now listed by 247Sports as one of the keys for the club to make a run at a Super Bowl title.

How Wisconsin got Joe Thomas

Joe Thomas is one of the best players to ever step on the field for Wisconsin. But the now former Cleveland Browns left tackle was also a very successful track and field athlete in high school. So, when former coach Barry Alvarez went to recruit him, he knew exactly how to play it and to get Thomas on campus.
