What Jimbo Fisher said after Florida State’s loss to North Carolina State

North Carolina State junior running back Nyheim Hines converted a crucial 3-and-10 by breaking loose on the right side with a 15-yard run, and more importantly moved the chains to seal an upset 27-21 victory over No. 12 Florida State.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a quick 10-0, and the Seminoles could never close the gap closer than four points (17-13 after 36-yard field goal by Ricky Aquayo) in the contest. The lone bright spot for FSU was true freshman quarterback James Blackman in his first collegiate start of his career. Blackman went 22-38 for 278 yards and 1 touchdown pass.

This loss drops Florida State to 0-2 for the first time since 1989. That team finished the year with a 10-2 record and a Fiesta Bowl win.

Here is what Florida State Jimbo Fisher said afterward:

Auden Tate shoulder injury: “It was a shoulder injury to Auden Tate, but I’m told it shouldn’t keep him out for any long period of time. We will have and see after he examined.”

Struggles offensively: “We need to finish drives in the red zone, we”ve got to do a better job. We had chances to make plays, but we dropped the ball too many times. In fact, I have to do a better job coaching them. I’m proud of how Blackman played in his first start.  ”

On the 0-2 start: “Lots of good, but plenty of bad. Now, we have to just line up and play. No panic, but urgency. It’s one day, one week and one game at a time from here on out.”

On Jacob Pugh’s targeting ejection: “I didn’t know that was targeting, so I will have to get a better understanding this week. All in all, too many defensive penalities, we had a targeting and facemask that extended their drives.”
