Florida State wasn’t expected to have much trouble with FCS Delaware State in the Seminoles’ home finale. After a little of a shaky start, the Seminoles took full control in a 77-6 rout of the Hornets at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Seminoles raced to a 7-0 lead and used a touchdown on a blocked field goal to double that margin with 9 minutes, 8 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Hornets did get on the board with a touchdown of their own (followed by a missed extra point), but it was all smooth sailing for the Seminoles from there as they opened up a commanding 56-6 halftime lead. The two teams would agree to shorten the second half to a pair of ten-minute quarters with the outcome already decided.

It was a short but productive day for quarterback James Blackman as he was lifted for backup J.J. Cosentino just before the halftime break. The true freshman went 11-for-15 for 179 yards and 3 touchdowns during a historic opening 30 minutes for Florida State, during which it tied the school record for points in a half with 56. It finished with the program’s second-largest point total and second-biggest margin of victory.
