What Bill Self said after Kansas’ critical road win over Iowa State

In a win that’ll certainly put a smile on Bill Self’s face, No. 13 Kansas won on the road at Iowa State 83-77 on Tuesday night.

With Texas Tech earning a win over Oklahoma on Tuesday night as well, the Jayhawks needed the win over the Cyclones to stay within a game of first place in the Big 12 standings.

Kansas had five scorers in double figures, including 19 points from Udoka Azubuike and 16 from Lagerald Vick.

Here’s what Bill Self had to say about the Jayhawks after their win:

Bill Self: “The way that Iowa State defends, it probably helps us to have four shooters.” — Clones had clamped down better in recent games but struggled tonight.

“Udoka fouled four times tonight — he may have fouled more than that… they saw how much better they are with him in the game.” – @CoachBillSelf on Azubuike’s performance #KUbball pic.twitter.com/IPLSGIzono

Last season with the NHL’s Dallas Stars, former Stanley Cup-winning coach Ken Hitchcock called player buy-in something you can get at Walmart. But second-year FIU football coach Butch Davis disagrees, suggesting that buy-in from everyone in your program is crucial for success in today’s college landscape. “One of the biggest challenges...

Dan Mullen, Florida Gators players bring swagger to SEC Media Days

The last three SEC teams wrapped up Thursday at Media Days with all of the electricity of a soggy bag of burritos. The coaches spoke in monotones all week, sometimes struggled to hear questions in the new venue and were almost unanimous in their decisions to wear brown shoes. Was beige not available? The players endured questions about their go-to...

(Getty Images) While the Hurricanes will enter camp still trying to find the right combination on the offensive line, senior Tyler Gauthier is one of the mainstays of the group. Gauthier, who started all 13 games for the Hurricanes at center last season, was named a nominee for the Rimington Trophy on Friday. The award is given...

New coach Dan Mullen’s Florida Gators fighting for consistency

Looking at Florida from afar the past several years, Dan Mullen has seen a program that has lost the consistency it once had when he was part of two national championships as the Gators’ offensive coordinator. “That sticks out with the program,” he said earlier this week at SEC Media Days. “The last five years, Florida&rsquo...
