UCLA not expected to make up cancelled game with Montana

When nearby wildfires prompted UCLA to cancel a December home game with Montana the main concern was the for the health and safety of everyone in the area, and rightfully so. Two months later, the absence of that game on the Bruins’ schedule could have potential NCAA tournament implications.

And there are no plans to reschedule the game, according to UCLA coach Steve Alford:

Steve Alford confirmed that it looks like no makeup for the Montana game canceled by wildfires in December.

Montana (20-5) is running away with the Big Sky Conference with a 13-0 record. The Grizzlies have won 15 of 16, their lone loss coming by three at Washington on Dec. 22. Three of their five losses are to power-conference teams, having also fallen at Stanford and Penn State.

At No. 91 in the RPI, Montana is rated higher than four Pac-12 teams and would have been UCLA’s fifth-best nonconference opponent in that respect. UCLA, which is 52 nd in the RPI and projected as a No. 11 seed by BracketMatrix, is 7-7 against top-100 teams this season.

The cancellation ultimately robbed the Bruins of a chance for another good win on their resume, assuming they won. According to Montana’s team Twitter account, though, the Grizzlies ended up winning that game that never was.

STATEMENT VICTORY!* Montana earns a signature win over No. 23 UCLA! #GrizHoops

The forgotten figure behind Daytona Speedway

He had moved down from Washington 14 years earlier and founded NASCAR in 1948. He knew the development of hotels on lucrative oceanside property north of Daytona Beach would eventually encroach on the race...
