Strengths and weaknesses

Phil Steele is regarded as one of the most knowledgable pundits when it comes to college football and handicapping the game. So when he speaks you should listen.

Steele had plenty to say about the Nittany Lions when he talked to Pennlive.com’s Dustin Hockensmith.

4 is enough

The NCAA passed a new rule Wednesday that will allow freshman football players to participate in four games without surrendering any eligibility. This could aid several teams including Penn State.

How exactly the Nittany Lions will utilize the new rule remains to be seen, but the Centre Daily Times’ John McGonigal writes that Penn State can benefit from it.

Heisman talk

Trace McSorley has garnered preseason Heisman talk, including an endorsement from former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer.

But if the Penn State senior quarterback is to make it to New York City, he is going to have to be at his best, writes StateCollege.com’s Ben Jones.

Establishing a brand

Penn State has hauled in running backs in recent months, fresh off having Saquon Barkley become the second overall pick in the NFL draft.

Land of 10’s Tyler Donohue writes that on the recruiting trail, the Nittany Lions have a national name among running backs they are targeting.

Summer learning

With fall practice two months away and a successful spring session complete, there is plenty for Penn State to do this summer.

Part of the process is what the coaching staff calls ‘teach days,’ and as Pennlive.com’s Greg Pickel points out, they are a very important part of the process.

Competitive culture: On Adam Gase’s Dolphins, no player entitled to start, or dress, any given week

When the Dolphins start a new week of practice, coach Adam Gase generally has a good idea of the players who will end up inactive the following Sunday. But in no way is it etched in stone. In fact, players have been been “up” or “down” as coaches and players say, based on their practice performance on offense, defense...

Keiser rally falls short as Seahawks lose school’s first home game

Roughly a decade after the idea of a football program was first floated and after three long weeks on the road to begin their inaugural season, the Keiser Seahawks finally played their first home game. The record book will show a mistake-filled 21-15 loss to Georgetown College (Kentucky), a decorated program ranked ninth in the country that made the...

A conversation with Dolphins DE Cameron Wake about learning, teaching and being unhappy

Whenever Cameron Wake flashes a smile, it always seems like it’s escaping from him. He’d prefer to maintain the image of the bad, brooding defensive end who exists only to demolish opposing quarterbacks. He rarely seems less happy, by the way, than when he does his weekly media availability. Or media obligation, as Wake puts it. When told...

Dolphins begrudgingly admire Marshawn Lynch’s powerful running style

Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke has trouble getting himself in the right frame of mind to give Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch his due. The nature of his job makes it hard to think of Lynch as anything other than a problem he must deal with in Sunday’s game. But if he steps back for a moment, it seems like Lynch would be one of...
