Penn State football trainer Tim Bream planning to resign

Penn State athletic trainer Tim Bream will resign at the end of February, according to StateCollege.com. Bream was the adviser at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house when a Penn State student died last year after a hazing event.

Bream worked at Penn State, his alma mater, for the last six seasons. He served as the head trainer for the football program and also had the title of Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Medicine Support Services.

“We appreciate Tim’s contributions to Penn State Athletics and his commitment to the care of our student-athletes and their success. We wish Tim success in his future endeavors,” Penn State spokesperson Jeff Nelson said in a statement to StateCollege.com.

In February 2017, Penn State sophomore Tim Piazza died after a hazing event involving an “alcohol gauntlet” at Beta Theta Pi, the house where Bream also lived. Piazza fell down a flight of stairs during a night of excessive drinking. Help was not called for Piazza until the next morning.

Criminal charges were brought against members of Theta Beta Pi in connection for Piazza’s death, but Bream did not face any. “No way would I give permission to have an alcohol gauntlet, nor did I know about it,” Bream said last year.

Piazza’s parents called for Bream to be fired last June, according to the Daily Collegian.

Before working at Penn State, Bream was a trainer with the Chicago Bears for 19 years.
