Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher doubles down, doesn’t regret snapping back at fan

If you thought Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher had any regret confronting a fan on his walk back to the locker room following a disappointing last second home loss to Louisville on Saturday, you would be wrong.

“No, not one bit,” Fisher said during his Monday press conference that was reported by Noles247Sports writer Brendan Sonnone, “Because I don’t expect that out of our fans at our stadium. We’re walking off the field, and I’m walking off the field, and I’m looking at the hurt and watching our kids cry. And I look at the coaches, how hurt they were, and coaches’ kids are sitting right there by the tunnel, and they’re sitting they’re listening to the guy. I expect that from another stadium and I understand they’re hurt.

The controversy stems around the Seminoles offense moving deep into Cardinals territory before freshman quarterback James Blackman fumbling the ball away with a little over two minutes remaining in the game. Louisville moved downfield to kick a game-winning 34-yard field goal with five seconds left in the contest. The 31-28 victory was the Cardinals first in Doak Campbell Stadium since 1952.

Fisher’s shouting match with the fan began after he heard “Seminoles needed new coaches.” Fisher responded by telling the fan “to come down to the field and deliver his message.” The confrontation never further escalated from that point.

The FSU coach wanted to reiterated that he expects that tone from the media because that’s part of their job, he won’t tolerate that type of criticism from the fans.

“And in the print, in the media, say what you want, you guys do your job. You do everything. I respect, that’s part of what goes with coaching. That goes with it 100 percent, Fisher said, “But to hear one of our fans, reaching over, saying that, it wasn’t to me, about our coaches and in front of their own kids and in front of their own players, I don’t one bit. That doesn’t belong here.”

Fisher continued that his team lost a tough game, but the effort was there from his assistants and the players themselves. He felt the situation dictated for him to stick up for his team, and Fisher doesn’t regret one minute of the confrontation with the fan.
