Dan Mullen would like to get Tim Tebow back at Florida in ‘whatever capacity’ if opportunity ever arises

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — New Florida football coach Dan Mullen said he’d like to have former star quarterback Tim Tebow involved with the Gators program again in the future if there is ever mutual interest.

That said, Tebow also has a lot going on these days between his minor league baseball career, his work with the SEC Network and his charitable interests and commitments.

Mullen was conducting a Q+A session with fans Wednesday night when he was asked about getting Tebow back involved at Florida.

“I talked to Timmy, and I’d love to get Timmy back in the program in whatever role he would want to come in,” Mullen said. “He’s got a lot of things going on. I talked to him the other day, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’ He’s like, ‘I’m taking batting practice.’ He was somewhere in California or Arizona. He’s got baseball going on. Before that, he was in southeast Asia on a mission trip. So his plate’s full, but we’d love to get him back in whatever capacity.”

Meanwhile, Mullen was also asked this week in a session with reporters if fellow former Gators offensive star Percy Harvin is doing anything with the program now that he’s back in Gainesville.

Mullen didn’t give a direct answer to that one.

“He was over in the office during the Christmas break, in the [recruiting] dead period I got to see him, and my wife sees him now because we just rented a house and she sees him walking the dogs every morning after she brings the kids to school,” Mullen said. “My wife sees him more than I do, but he’s back here in town and living in Gainesville, so it’s great to have him back around. Hopefully we’re going to get him back in school and finish his degree.”

When Mullen, the Gators former offensive coordinator for their last two national championships, was hired at Florida in late November, one aspect of fan excitement was the potential for him to reconnect the program to former players from the glory years.
