Is the Holder of the Year Award a real thing? Yes and no. But Connor McGinnis is the 2017 recipient either way.
The Oklahoma holder and backup quarterback is the 2017 Peter Mortell Holder of the Year Award winner. The award was started in 2015 by Minnesota holder Peter Mortell.

McGinnis went all out, making a promotional video showing his perfect holds. Baker Mayfield spoke in his honor at the College Football Awards Show on Thursday.
“He holds everything. He holds water bottles, he holds pencils the correct way. Shout out to Connor. He deserves it.”
McGinnis is the third recipient of the award and the first Sooner.
