3 biggest things for fans to love about Miami Hurricanes football on Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day-Miami-Miami football

Miami fans adore The U 365 days out of the year but what better time than Valentine’s Day for Miami fans and the Hurricanes program to show some true affection for one another?

Last season in Year Two under Mark Richt, the Hurricanes won double-digit games for the first time since 2003, defeated Florida State for the first time since 2009 and won the ACC Coastal division for the first time ever.

Year Three of the Richt era is already being touted as having the potential to be extremely special. Miami is currently ranked at No. 8 in ESPN’s Way Too Early 2018 rankings.

Here’s the three best gifts Miami is giving to its fans on Valentine’s Day:

Local high school stars staying home

Home is where the heart is.

The Hurricanes hauled in the No. 8 recruiting class in the nation for the 2018 cycle, according to 247Sports. A major reason for that is the talent remaining in South Florida to rock the orange and green.

Miami landed eight 4-star local prospects: DT Nesta Silvera (American Heritage-Plantation), WR Mark Pope (Miami Southridge), CB Al Blades Jr. (St. Thomas Aquinas-Fort Lauderdale), RB Cam’Ron Davis (Miami Carol City), OG Delone Scaife (Miami Southridge), S Gurvan Hall (Palm Beach Gardens), CB Gilbert Frierson (Coral Gables Senior), CB D.J. Ivey (South Dade).

These prospects should inject even more energy into the program and push the returning players at their respective positions.

This comment by Silvera on National Signing Day sums up the pride and joy of fulfilling the dream of playing for the team he grew up watching.

New indoor practice facility

Now that’s a commitment that has Miami fans fawning.

In the arms race that is competitive recruiting, it’s essential to have top-notch facilities.

Miami is about to have another significant asset as they annually vie for the best prospects.

The 73,000-square-foot Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility is slated to open before the Hurricanes begin fall camp in August, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

This crown jewel is going to be a game-changer. Not only will it entice elite recruits, but it will also give the Hurricanes the opportunity for more consistent practice time.

South Florida is notorious for unpredictable weather, so having an indoor complex is going to come extremely handy.

“I’m 100 percent confident we’ll be ready to go as planned with the start of this fall camp, beginning of August,” Miami AD Blake James said to the Sun-Sentinel. “Right now, they believe we’ll be done a little bit before that, but as I’ve said all along, as long as we’re ready to go when [football coach Mark Richt] and our team take the field, I’ll be happy. It’s made tremendous progress and it’s exciting to see it happen every day.”

Turnover Chain

South Florida jewelry stores are probably getting plenty of special requests on Valentine’s Day for the hottest piece on the market. When Miami fans first laid eyes on the 36-inch, 2.5-kilogram, 10-karat gold Cuban link, it was love at first sight.

But this isn’t merely infatuation of the bling. The inventor, Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, thankfully revealed the turnover chain isn’t some one-season gimmick.

Which is a relief because the turnover chain is more than just a flashy symbol.

The turnover chain is a rallying cry for the community and the coolest celebration in all of sports. Simply put, the turnover chain is unapologetically Miami.

It seemed like Miami was flashing the jewelry at an insane level last season, so one can only imagine the frequency with a reloaded and more experienced defense. The Hurricanes forced more takeaways (17 interceptions, 13 recovered fumbles) than just two other teams in the nation. Miami’s 30 turnovers ranked third behind Wyoming and Central Michigan.

Yup, the love is real and next season can’t get here soon enough.
