UPDATE: Wanted murder suspect found dead in car near Sawgrass Mills

Update: 1:45 p.m.:  The Vero Beach man wanted for the murder of his wife was found dead inside his car near the Sawgrass Mills mall this morning.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar confirmed that the body found earlier today was that of 45-year-old Pedro Torres.

SWAT team members flooded the area when they located Torres’ vehicle this morning in a Rooms To Go parking lot in Sunrise.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, the SWAT team departed from the scene though it was unclear as to whose body was found inside the vehicle.

Sunrise Police spokesman Christopher Piper told WPTV that when officers entered the vehicle, they found a man dead, though they could not confirm that it was the murder suspect.

Indian County Sheriff’s Office authorities were looking for Torres since Sunday, when they found his wife dead inside their Vero Beach home.

Original story: The SWAT team is just outside the Sawgrass Mills mall now trying to capture a Vero Beach man authorities suspect of killing his wife.

The Sunrise Police department is warning people to stay away from the area due to police activity near the Rooms To Go off Flamingo Road, which is shut down.

Indian River County Sheriff’s detectives said that Pedro Torres fled the area after his wife, 45-year-old Vicky Torres, was found dead early Sunday morning inside their Vero Beach home.

Preliminary evidence suggests that Torres killed her before leaving, according to detectives.

Police told WPLG that they think that Torres is hiding in a van in the mall parking lot.

Live news footage of the scene just after 11 a.m. shows armed SWAT team members near the vehicle. Someone on a bullhorn is pleading for Pedro Torres to display his hands  and come out of the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $3,000 by contacting Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477) or by visiting their website at www.tcwatch.org.
