Father of Parkland victim says Brett Kavanaugh snubbed him at hearing

Fred Guttenberg, father of Parkland victim Jaime Guttenberg, has tweeted that he was snubbed today by Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

The incident occurred during a break in Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation hearing, which began today. Guttenberg said in a pair of missives on Twitter that he approached Kavanaugh and extended his hand only to have Kavanaugh refuse to shake hands, turn his back and walk away.

Guttenberg tweeted: “Just walked up to Judge Kavanaugh as morning session ended. Put out my hand to introduce myself as Jaime Guttenberg’s dad. He pulled his hand back, turned his back to me and walked away. I guess he did not want to deal with the reality of gun violence.”

One of Guttenberg’s tweets included a photo by Associated Press photographer Andrew Harnik showing him extending his hand toward Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh also retweeted a video showing him approaching Kavanaugh and then having the judge — President Donald Trump’s second Supreme Court pick — turn and walk away.

Jaime Guttenberg, 14, was one of the 17 students and faculty members murdered in the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14.
