Today: Gov. Scott in Boynton, Ag Commissioner Putnam in West Palm

Florida Gov. Rick Scott will visit a Boynton Beach business this morning to tout tax cuts while one of the Republicans who hopes to succeed him, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, will visit West Palm Beach to discuss the opioid crisis.

Scott and Putnam are also expected to be in Palm Beach on Friday night for the Palm Beach County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day fundraising dinner at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club.

Scott is scheduled to appear at Paradise Exteriors in Boynton Beach at 10 a.m. to highlight sales tax holidays and other tax cuts approved by the legislature this year. He has a similar event later today at a business in Seminole County.

Putnam will visit the Palm Beach County Robert Weisman Governmental Center for a 2:30 p.m. roundtable on the opioid crisis with representatives of law enforcement and elected officials, Putnam’s campaign said.

Republican Scott faces term limits and is expected to run for U.S. Senate against three-term Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson. He has said he’ll announce his plans in the next few weeks.

Putnam and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Palm Coast, are seeking the GOP nomination for governor and could be joined in the race by House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Land-O’Lakes. Four Democrats have also opened campaigns for governor.
