Come across any unusual $20 bills lately?

If so, you may be in possession of counterfeit cash that the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office recently warned people about on Facebook.

The bills may look and feel real, but they’re fake.

Some of the phony bills they’ve encountered had Chinese writing on them and others had the stamp that says “copy” smudged off.

Law enforcement officials warn do not be fooled. If you come across any cash you think is suspicious, notify your local law enforcement agency.

A counterfeit note cannot be exchanged for a genuine one, and it is illegal to knowingly pass counterfeit currency.

If you want to know more about your money, the Secret Service has a website that details specifics about different denominations which include information on thread count, serial numbers, color-shifting ink and more.
