Post investigative reporter to discuss opioid issues on PBS

The Palm Beach Post’s Pat Beall will appear at 7:30 p.m. Friday on “Your South Florida,” a PBS show on WPBT Channel 2.

The show, hosted by Pam Giganti, will focus on the state’s new opioid prescription law.

Beall’s three-part series, “How Florida ignited the heroin epidemic,” traces the origins of today’s heroin epidemic to the spread of oxycodone dating to the mid-1990s.

Beall will be joined by Dr. Hansel Tookes, a University of Miami assistant professor, who has championed the state’s lone program offering drug-users clean needles.

A repeat showing will air at noon Sunday.
