NEW: Texas tourist dies after sand dune collapses at Florida beach

A Texas tourist who was digging a tunnel at a Florida beach and it collapsed on him has died.

Lee Goggin was on vacation near St. Augustine on Sunday when the accident happened.

He was a father of three and a personal trainer, according to the Dallas Morning News

St. Johns Fire Rescue responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m. to find the Irving, Texas, man buried under 2 to 3 feet of sand. He was in an area off A1A near Crescent Beach.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and was placed in a medically induced coma, Dallas Morning News stated.

His sister wrote about his death on her Facebook page late Tuesday.

“He’s got a beautiful wife, three great kids… just a phenomenal guy. The world is definitely at a loss without him,” his longtime friend Joe Long told CBS DFW.
