NEW: Florida cop accused of breaking teen’s jaw

A Florida police officer was arrested after deputies said he broke the jaw of a teenager he believed was having sex with his daughter, news reports state.

Opa-locka Police officer Lowrie Simon, 37, attacked the 17-year-old boy around 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Pembroke Park Church of Christ, according to a Broward County Sheriff’s arrest report obtained by NBC 6 Miami.

According to the report, Simon approached the teen to ask if he was having sex with his 13-year-old daughter. When the teen said he was not, Simon punched him in the chest and face.

The teen was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s hospital to be treated for a broken jaw and damage to his bottom teeth, NBC 6 stated.

Simon, a police officer at Opa-locka since 2014, was booked into jail on a charge of felony battery. He has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
