With cash on the line, Wellington Idol registration opens


Registration is now open for the seventh annual Wellington Idol singing competition, the annual event that draws performers from across the village who sing their hearts out for glory and cash.

This year, a $500 grand prize is on the line with three $250 runners-up. There will be three age groups: ages 8 to 12, 13 to 17 and 18 and up.

The deadline to register is 6 p.m. Feb. 15.

The rules

Contestants must be individual singers at least 8 years old as of March 1, 2018, and must live in Wellington or attend a Wellington school. Contestants cannot be professional performers, or previous grand prize winners of Wellington Idol or Wellington Talent Search. 

How to enter

Submit an application form, proof of age -- such as birth certificate or photo ID -- and a headshot, short performer biography and non-refundable $25 fee per contestant. You also must submit a YouTube link of your performance ot Wellington Cultural Programs and Facilities Manager Joe Piconcelli at jpiconcelli@wellingtonfl.gov. You also can submit a non-returnable CD or DVD of a maximum four minutes instead of the YouTube entry. Be sure to label your disc with your name, age, title of the piece and phone number.

Registration packets can be dropped off at the Wellington Community Center, 12100 Forest Hill Blvd., or Village Park, 11700 Pierson Road, during normal hours of operation
