West Boynton’s Venu a hit for upscale dining, live music

The recent opening of an upscale dining and live music restaurant west of Boynton Beach creates a unique, cultural vibe that locals have craved.

The Venu, which opened Aug. 6 at the Canyon Town Center on Boynton Beach Boulevard, fills its near-300 seats almost every Friday and Saturday when live bands perform on the main stage, said Joe Tracy, a business partner with owner Terry Woods.

The Venu is open 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., seven days a week.

“There’s no place like it in Palm Beach County and South Florida,” Tracy said. “The people west of Boynton are culturally inspired — they like their comedy, live music and Broadway acts.”

Weekend music performances range from jazz, cabaret, rock, blues, jam bands and tribute acts. Tickets for weekend shows are $8 in advance on Ticket Fly’s website or $15 general admission at the door.

“The show was phenomenal,” said Boynton Beach resident, Rose Ann Fraumeni. “I went back for lunch and sat at the bar — the food and wine was great.”

Tracy said he and Woods owned the space when it was Prime Sports Grill, but they closed it in April to make way for a new concept.

“We wanted to transition it to an unique food and entertainment destination,” Tracy said.

Not only is The Venu popular for their live entertainment, but also for their “upscale food and drink menu,” said Roxanne Tracy, the restaurant’s marketing manager.

The Venu has four menus: lunch, dinner, brunch and showtime — each with its own flair, Roxanne said.

“Our dinner menu is Mediterranean collect,” Roxanne said. “It has different European flavors like Spanish, Italian, French and Dutch.”

The lunch menu has more of a traditional American theme while brunch is “American contemporary,” Roxanne said.

“All of the food is cooked in a Sautee pan with fresh ingredients — nothing is frozen,” Tracy said. They even make pasta from scratch, he added.

Bartender Tanya Dolan is excited to “see where we are in six months.”

“The food is amazing and fully handcrafted,” Dolan said. “We are taught to make fun drinks and the live music has been a huge hit, often packing the entire restaurant.”

Customers who only come to dine-in generally are west-Boynton locals, but once they transition from a dining room to a show room the crowd is eclectic, Tracy said.

“We really want to enhance the music community in South Florida,” Tracy said. “We are drawing people from Fort Lauderdale and as far north as Jupiter.”

The Venu also offers happy hour seven days a week with free entertainment on Wednesday through Friday. Alcoholic beverages range from fresh juice cocktails, martinis and draft or bottled beers.

“Happy hour is sublime and the drinks are unique and delicious,” said Boynton resident Tracey Goldenberg.
