Wellington picks holiday parade theme

Wellington’s annual holiday parade has a theme, and it’s a very Florida one.

The Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and the village will team to present “Holiday in Paradise” on Dec. 9 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The 35th annual event will begin at the corner of Forest Hill Boulevard and Wellington Trace, and follow a 3-mile route along Forest Hill before turning onto Ken Adams Way. Parade participants will ride and walk along that route.

The parade is expected to draw more than 20,000 spectators, according to the chamber.

Road closures are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

Wellington’s annual holiday parade is the brainchild of Palms West Chamber of Commerce founding board member Dennis Witkowski, who was inspired by the parades of his boyhood in Woodbridge, New Jersey. The first event was held in 1984.

It has become one of the hallmarks of the village’s holiday celebration, with groups from throughout Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Loxahatchee and Greenacres participating. Signature sponsors, including the Schumacher Family of Dealerships and Wellington Regional Medical Center, continue to take part.

Schumacher is this year’s Automotive Presenting Sponsor.
