‘The one with the Chipotle:’ A guide to Gardens’ places to eat and shop

Knowing my beat inside and out is a plus most of the time.

Every once in awhile, though, it makes me feel out of touch. Like when I call one of the shopping centers on PGA Boulevard by its proper name and just get a blank stare or a long pause.

Facebook users, follow @PostonGardens for the latest news and updates.

Most people, understandably, don’t care about the name of the shopping center where the Chipotle is (Mainstreet at Midtown) or where they buy their gelato (Legacy Place).

But you never know when that knowledge might come in handy. A guide:

Mainstreet at Midtown - This restaurant and retail complex on the north side of PGA Boulevard is also home of Christopher’s Kitchen, the wildly popular restaurant serving vegan cuisine. Blaze Pizza, which boasts NBA All Star Lebron James as an investor, also recently opened here.

Midtown’s more upscale offerings include J. Alexander’s and III Forks. Just say “the one with the Chipotle,” though, and you’ll be set.

PGA Commons - This is on the south side of PGA Boulevard across from Midtown. Here one might indulge in tacos and tequila at Rocco’s Tacos or enjoy a classy lunch or dinner at The Cooper, the farm-to-table restaurant with lots of delicious fare.

Seafood lovers are probably familiar with Spoto’s Oyster Bar & Bluepoint Lounge, which has a good happy hour.

The outdoor art helps make PGA Commons what it is, too, from the life-sized chess board on the patio to the iridescent butterfly and school of fish spread across tall, metal columns.

Downtown at the Gardens - This sprawling shopping center farther east next to the mall is where kids can ride the Florida-themed carousel before burning off some energy at Cool Beans Indoor Playground & Cafe. The carousel’s figures include a blue heron, an alligator and a Florida Panther.

This is also where you’ll find Whole Paycheck — er, I mean Whole Foods, the Cobb Theatre, The Cheesecake Factory and family movies on the lawn.

Legacy Place - I’m partial to this complex across from Downtown at the Gardens because it has the only Barnes & Noble in Palm Beach County north of Boynton Beach. It’s probably more recognizable for the Gelato Grotto, Moe’s Southwest Grill and Five Guys.

Healthy eaters appreciate the Publix Greenwise Market, conveniently located next to Total Wine & More, while the obsessively organized flock to The Container Store.

The Gardens Mall - Does this really need a description? Shop everywhere from Sears to Louis Vuitton at this enormous mall next to Downtown at the Gardens across from Legacy Place.
