Smoke is likely over coastal northern Palm Beach County and southern Martin County during Wednesday’s prescribed burn at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound.
The prescribed burn will consist of 102 acres west of US 1 and east of the railroad tracks, according to
the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The prescribed burn, which is authorized and supervised by park officials, is weather permitting.
Prescribed burning mimics natural fire cycles to restore healthy forests and natural communities, reduce undergrowth that accumulates over time and decreases the potential for wildfire.
Burned lands experience an increase in native wildflowers, birds and other wildlife, according to forest officials.
