The GoFundMe for 24-year-old Elaine O’Halloran has raised $120,202 as of Friday morning. It was created Dec. 5 by David Blake of Pine Hollow Farm in Wellington, where O’Halloran worked as a groom for the farm’s showjumpers.
The Ireland native was in the back seat of 19-year-old Dana McWilliams’ 2013 Chevy Camaro about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 25 when McWilliams lost control of the car on southbound South Shore Boulevard between Pierson and Lake Worth roads, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report. McWilliams, of Connecticut, and the front seat passenger, 21-year-old Christian Kennedy of Iowa, were declared dead at the scene by first responders.
Since the crash, O’Halloran has had reconstructive spinal surgery but is paralyzed from the waist down, Blake wrote on the GoFundMe page.
“Elaine will need to undergo extensive rehabilitation therapy for the foreseeable future,” he wrote, adding that because of her diagnosis, O’Halloran has to stay in Palm Beach County for treatment. She did not have medical insurance, he said.
“Elaine has been part of my team for a number of years now,” Blake wrote on his Facebook page. “Not only has she been a great friend, but one of the most loyal hardworking people I have had the pleasure of working with. She truly is one in a million.”
Fundraisers also were launched shortly after the crash for McWilliams’ and Kennedy’s families to help cover funeral expenses. The fundraiser for Kennedy’s family topped its $25,000 goal with $30,552 as of Friday morning, and one for McWilliams’ family has raised $19,195 of its $24,000 goal.
