NEW: 300-vehicle parking lot proposed along A1A in Jupiter

A proposal to build a 300-vehicle parking lot on the southeast corner of A1A and Parkway Street in the town’s Inlet Village is scheduled for a vote at the Feb. 6 town council meeting.

The three-acre property, now vacant, is owned by Charles Modica, who has won approval to build an outdoor market place on Love Street.

Modica also owns the 10-acre parcel that was formerly the Suni Sands Mobile Home Park. Tentative plans for that property call for a hotel. He also owns the former Rustic Inn Seafood Crabhouse. Now closed, plans call for turning the biulding next to Love Street into an upscale wedding venue facility.

Long-range plans call for tying in the Suni Sands property, Rustic Inn and Love Street into a office/retail/ecotourism destination that will bring tourists, locals and high-tech jobs to the Inlet Village, an area in Jupiter defined as along A1A between Jupiter Beach Road north to U.S. 1., Modica has told the Palm Beach Post.

Parking lot plans call for starting out with space for about 170 vehicles. About 100 would be paved and the rest on the grass. The lot could be expanded to 300 spaces, according to the plan.

Park benches, trees for shade, landscaping, decorative pavers and art work are planned.

No direct access to the parking lot is scheduled to and from A1A. Access is planned to and from Parkway Street.

The town’s planning and zoning commission on Jan. 9 voted 6-1, with Commissioner Cheryl Schneider dissenting, to recommend approval. The town council is not bound by the commission’s recommendation.
