Kravis Center becomes 20th organization to leave Mar-a-Lago

The Kravis Center late Sunday became the 20th organization to cancel a charity event scheduled for President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.

Its annual wine auction, a fundraiser for the Kravis Center, will be Feb. 1 at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, officials announced this morning.

"The executive committee of the Kravis Center’s board met this morning and formalized the organization’s decision to move the 11th annual Palm Beach Wine Auction from Mar-a-Lago,” said Kravis Center CEO Judith Mitchell. “The Palm Beach Wine Auction has worked hard to raise both funds and awareness for arts education for all children in our community. Recent controversy has shifted the focus away from the purpose of the event and our mission. We were able to secure the exact same date for the event of February 1 on our own property."

Kravis Center officials announced the move with this statement and plans to make the move final today.

“Going into its 11th year, the 2018 Palm Beach Wine Auction has worked hard to raise funds and awareness for arts education for all children in our community. Recent controversy has completely shifted the focus away from the purpose of the event and our mission. It has taken some time this weekend to contact our board members, but tomorrow’s executive committee meeting, part of our governance process, will formalize our decision to move the event from Mar-a-Lago.”

The decision leaves only the Palm Beach Habilitation Center still deciding about whether to keep its scheduled Hab-a-Hearts Luncheon at the club. The group has called a board meeting for early this week to discuss the topic.
