BOCA RATON — Update at 1:15 p.m.: Authorities identified the woman killed in the Thursday morning wreck as Jasmine Tinesha Fairell, of Opa Locka.
Fairell, 26, died at the scene of the crash, Florida Highway Patrol reports. It isn’t clear yet whether drug or alcohol impairment played a role in the crash, the report indicates.
Original story: A woman was killed early Thursday after her car smashed into a concrete barrier on a crash-prone highway overpass in Boca Raton, Florida Highway Patrol reports.
The woman, who was not identified, was southbound on Interstate 95 at about 6:30 a.m., and failed to turn right at the Congress Avenue interchange. She struck the concrete center median and veered into a concrete barrier, highway patrol says.
She was the only person in the four-door sedan and was not wearing a seat belt.
There have been at least five other wrecks at the Congress Avenue overpass since 2016, according data from the Florida Department of Transportation.
In April, a tow truck driver fell to his death at the overpass while attempting to rescue a crash victim in distress.
Richard Randolph, 69, slipped off the overpass while helping the driver of a tractor-trailer that had flipped onto its side against a barrier wall.
