JUST IN: Suburban Delray woman, 90, killed in crash west of Boynton


A 90-year-old suburban Delray Beach woman died last week when a car in which she was riding struck another vehicle west of Boynton Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Irene Dworkin, who turned 90 last month, was in a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze being driven by Merri Raphan, 70, at about 2 p.m. Nov. 21, and was headed north on Jog Road at Gateway Boulevard when the car was struck by a 2018 Nissan driven by Claudia Yhan, 36, of suburban Boynton Beach, a report said.

The report said the Nissan turned into the path of the Cruze in the intersection, striking the driver’s side and sending that vehicle spinning into a 2015 Honda driven by Terry Snively, 73, of Greenacres.

Dworkin died of her injuries about eight hours later, at 10:25 p.m., the report said. It did not say to which hospital Dworkin had been taken.

The other two drivers suffered minor injuries, the report said. It said all four people in the crash wore safety belts and neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor with any of them.

The report did not say if any charges have been immediately filed.

Dworkin “was a wonderful woman. She was so nice,” Sandra Roberts, a neighbor for 15 years, said Tuesday. “She was very active. She was still in a bowling league.”

Roberts said Dworkin was on her way to a doctor’s visit with Raphan, her caregiver, at the time of the crash.

She said Dworkin was buried in Israel.

Roberts said Dworkin’s husband died several years ago and she had adult children. She did not want to provide further details, referring a Post reporter to a sister, who could not be reached.
