The city’s new, $4.6 million clubhouse at the Sandhill Crane Golf Club will open to the public with a family day Feb. 18.
There will be live performances, face-painting and a “Golfzilla,” a huge inflatable dinosaur with various targets that people can aim at with special practice balls. Guests can tour the new clubhouse and enjoy a treat from the new clubhouse restaurant, The Dancing Crane. The open house is 2 to 6 p.m. at the golf club, 11401 Northlake Blvd.
The new club at the municipal course is about 22,000 square feet with banquet-style seating for about 200 to 220 people plus a dance floor.
Recreation impact fees from developers and general fund stabilization reserves paid for the new club.
With only 2,500 square feet, the previous clubhouse built in 1991 was not large enough to host special events and tournaments. Tournament banquets were held in the cart barn, which did not have air conditioning.
Golfers play more than 40,000 rounds of golf at the course each year, according to the city.
