Cabo Flats in Jupiter shut down temporarily after failing inspections

A popular Mexican restaurant was closed temporarily last week after failing state inspections.

Cabo Flats at 1352 U.S. 1 in Jupiter was shut down Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 after inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation found rodent droppings, undercooked food and soiled equipment, among other violations, according to records.

Inspectors found a total of 32 violations, including six that were considered high-priority. Nine intermediate violations and 17 basic violations also were found.

High-priority violations are those which could contribute directly to a food-borne illness or injury, and include items such as cooking, reheating, cooling and hand-washing.

A follow-up inspection will be scheduled, according to records.

“Everything is fine here and we’re open,” a manager said Thursday.

Nine other Palm Beach County restaurants had perfect inspections last week. They are: Atlantic Ballroom, Twenty/Twenty Grille and Boomers in Boca Raton; Sloan’s, Agave Mexican Restaurant, La Cruderia and La Isla Del Encanto in West Palm Beach; Olio Bistro in Delray Beach; and Comfort Inn Lantana in Lantana.
