Boynton Police investigating string of shootings that may be connected

Simon Pierre, owner of a home at 609 SW 1st Street in Boynton Beach says he has no idea who would shoot up his home and vehicle on January 17, 2018. Pierre and his family were home last night when nearly 40 shots including 10 that hit his home were fired. No one was hurt. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

Simon Pierre’s three daughters thought the noises were fireworks.

But then a bullet hit one of the front windows.

“Get down!” Pierre’s wife, Marlene Guerrier, screamed Tuesday night.

The couple’s 10-year-old daughter was doing back flips on the black L-shaped couch beside the window and if she hadn’t moved, she would have been killed, Pierre said.

More than 40 shots were fired Tuesday night at the house on Southwest First Street in Boynton Beach while Pierre slept and his wife and children watched “The Lion King.”

It’s the ninth shooting since Jan. 1 in the city. While homes and cars have been hit, no one has been injured. Police think the shootings might be connected.

“We are deeply concerned about the shootings currently plaguing the city,” Interim Police Chief Kelly Harris said in a statement. “Our personnel are working hard to identify the persons involved, and swiftly take them into custody. We remain steadfast in our commitment to keeping the community safe.”

They’re asking for anyone with information to speak up, even anonymously.

The other shootings:

Pierre, who is a heavy equipment operator for the City Of Boynton Beach, said he doesn’t know who would want to harm his family or why.

At least 10 bullets hit the front of the home. At least six shots sprinkled across the bottom right side of the family’s Toyota Highlander. It was parked in the driveway in front of the living room window. Bullets left the left back window of the Toyota shattered. The Honda Pilot parked beside the Toyota and in front of the garage was left untouched. Inside the home, bullets left marks on the walls, in cabinets and in windows.

“Whatever it is, whoever it is, I don’t know what they’re looking for but they’re coming straight to kill,” he said.
