Angie Ingraham-Rolle always wanted to be the type of person students and teachers would look to at school — whether it be for help with studying, with sports or even with cleaning a stained shirt.

She didn’t have anyone like that at school when she was a student.

“I always wanted to be that person to go to for whatever they need, like my grandma used to do,” she said.

Ingraham-Rolle, 52, has worked for the Palm Beach County School District for 26 years and has been at Congress Middle School in Boynton Beach for the past five. As confidential secretary to the principal, her official duties are maintaining the master calendar, payroll and assisting the principal with daily school operations, according to a news release.

But she does so much more, and this past week the school district named her the 2018 Palm Beach County School District’s School-Related Employee of the Year.

She’s known as “the heart of Congress Middle School.”

“I feel really special and amazing,” Ingraham-Rolle said. “I just do it for (the) children. I love helping.”

Ingraham-Rolle, a West Palm Beach resident, coaches the robotics team, co-sponsors the intramural track team and mentors girls on the step team. She volunteers to play music at school dances and pep rallies, where her skills have earned her the name “DJ Angie.”

She’s also known to sew students’ torn clothes or clean a stain.

“I don’t want them to think about that when they’re in the classroom,” she said. “I want them to be comfortable in the classroom.”

The district surprised Ingraham-Rolle last week with the award, which she received during a celebration attended by her family, friends and Superintendent Robert Avossa.

“She embodies everything that we expect from our employees,” Avossa said.

“She always puts everyone above herself,” Congress Middle School Principal Denise O’Connor said in a statement. “She is the yin to my yang, my right hand. She is my everything.”
