White Out: Downtown park turns white for outdoor charity dinner party

The green grass of the Meyer Amphitheater was covered in white Saturday night when more than 500 people converged for the annual Dreyofoos in White charity dinner.

All of the guests wore white outfits and hosted their own al fresco dinners, sitting at tables elaborately decorated with different themes — from New York City’s Central Park to Halloween-themed skeletons and skulls.

“It’s such a special event. Everyone goes all out and has fun,” said Stefani Kochanski, director of development for the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation.

The precise location of the annual pop-up party was kept secret until 4 p.m., prompting participants to line up in time to grab prime tables at 5 p.m.

Previous locations have been the Great Lawn at the east end of Clematis Street, the roof of the parking garage at Macy’s in CityPlace, the 500 block of Clematis Street and the Norton Art Gallery.

“Every year people thought it would be here,” Kochanski said with a laugh, refering to the Meyer Amphitheater. “We figured we’ll guive it them this year.”

Proceeds from the event go to the arts and academic curriculum at Dreyfoos School of the Arts. Prizes were awarded to the best “tablescapes.”
