West Boca High Wind Ensemble chosen for national music festival


WEST BOCA RATON HIGH

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Larry Shane, was invited to perform at the 2018 Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis. Students will perform in concert, be evaluated by renowned music educators, and participate in master classes and special events.

SOUTHTECH PREPARATORY ACADEMY

An open house takes place at 6:30 p.m. April 12 at the campus of this tuition-free charter school, 1325 Gateway Blvd., Boynton Beach. School staff will be on hand to provide information on academic and student-support services, clubs and organizations. Admissions assistance will be available. The school educates students in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) disciplines and through career academies. The state-of-the-art facility is outfitted with smart boards, computer labs and a zSpace Lab, the first fully 3D laboratory in Palm Beach County. Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA awarded wellness grants to five local organizations for their programs in the schools: S.D. Spady Elementary PTA, Operation Green; Rolling Green Elementary PTA, STEM Garden; Tradewinds Middle PTSA, Health Wellness & Safety Fair; Loggers Run Middle PTSA, Step Dance Team; and Christa McAuliffe Middle PTSA, Million Pollinator Garden Challenge.

The district’s Office of Diversity in Business Practices is hosting its inaugural Women’s Empowerment Summit 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center, 3300 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach. Women from both the public and private sectors will discuss the bias and challenges that women-owned small businesses continue to face, and provide solution-driven advice on how to overcome them.
