Trinity Christian students win awards at Florida Jr. Beta Convention

Principal Vernita Martial is the Beta Club sponsor.

PALM BEACH GARDENS ELEMENTARY

The Apex Fun Run is scheduled for Jan. 18. Students will be challenged to get pledges for the laps they will run at the event. Volunteers are needed throughout the day to hand out water. Families are invited to cheer on the students. In anticipation of the Fun Run, a pep rally will take place Jan. 9.

Parent University takes place 7:15-8 a.m. Jan. 10 in the media center. There will be a continental breakfast and a raffle. Guest speakers will share tips to help foster values and character traits used in the school’s MVP program, as well as strategies and techniques to promote good study habits. Each parent will receive 5 Dolphin Dollars, a homework pass and a ticket for a free ice pop.

ST. CLARE CATHOLIC SCHOOL

The 27th annual Mardi Gras Festival will take place Jan. 18-21 on the school grounds, 821 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach. The event includes rides, midway games , food, musical entertainment, a putting competition and vendors. Admission is free. Discounted ride tickets can be purchased at the school before Jan. 17 or online at www.stclareschool.com. Tickets for rides, games and food also will be available at the event. Hours will be 5-9 p.m. Jan. 18; noon-11 p.m. Jan. 19-20; and 1-8 p.m. Jan. 21. For more information about Mardi Gras or sponsorship opportunities, call 561-282-8968.

Winter open house sessions for new families are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 25.

TREASURE COAST SCHOOLS

The city of Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie Public Schools have partnered to provide additional open-space fields, sports courts and playground areas for residents to enjoy in the evenings, holidays and the weekends. Certain outdoor areas at Bayshore Elementary School, 1661 SW Bayshore Blvd., are now open for public use on school days from 6 p.m. to sunset, and non-school days from 8 a.m. to sunset. Areas included in this pilot program are outdoor basketball courts, multi-purpose fields featuring soccer goals and baseball backstop, and the playground near the basketball courts.

If the program expands, Palm Pointe Educational Research School in Tradition and Southern Oaks Middle School on St. James Drive have been identified as potential sites.
