Students from two schools come together to enjoy ‘Peter and the Wolf’


SEMINOLE RIDGE HIGH

Seven seniors received diplomas recently from the University of Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education program, indicating a successful completion of a concentration of college-level courses during their high school years: Dana Bryan, Ashley De La Cruz, Alyssa Dominguez, Zachary Entinger, Mathew Gairala, Zachary Vera and Georgia Williams.

Members of the speech and debate team traveled to Fairfax, Va. recently to compete in the nation’s largest high school tournament at George Mason University. Jonathan Alvarez and Zachary Kameka competed in Public Forum debate, advancing to the “triple octos” — the top 48 teams out of about 180. Gustavo Chaux competed in Dramatic Performance events, breaking to quarterfinals — the top 28 out of 130.

Students of the Week for Dec. 4–8: Anthony Iannone, Magali Nicho, Anthony Bowie and Joshua Herrmance.

PALM BEACH CENTRAL HIGH

The Bronco Varsity Competition Cheerleading Team earned a spot to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Competition in Orlando at the ESPN Center in February. Coaches are Capella Flaherty and Caitlin Flaherty.

The GladesFest teacher job fair takes place 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Glades Region Office, 2625 NW 16th St., Belle Glade. At least a dozen positions are vacant and ready to be filled at one of the 12 schools in the Glades area. Teachers hired in the Glades earn an annual supplement of $3,750, have the opportunity to obtain additional jobs to supplement income, gain professional development and earn leadership and career advancement. The school district has named its outstanding volunteers of the year. Kayla Abramowitz, a sophomore at William T. Dwyer High and founder of Kayla Cares 4 Kids, is the Outstanding Youth Volunteer. Terri Priori, who has volunteered at five schools in the district and is presently at Palm Beach Central High, is the Outstanding Adult Volunteer. Robert D. Miller Jr., the Outstanding Senior Volunteer, has volunteered his time at the elementary (Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington, Westward and Northmore), middle (John F. Kennedy, Roosevelt), and high school (Twin Lakes, Palm Beach Lakes) levels for more than 46 years.
