Rosenblatt, Katz Yeshiva high-schoolers lend a hand in Key West

It was a long day clearing downed trees and picking up debris at a synagogue and homes in Key West for high school students from Rosenblatt High at Donna Klein Jewish Academy and Katz Yeshiva High in Boca Raton. Rabbi Josh Broide organized the trip and accompanied the students as director of the Deborah and Larry D. Silver Center for Jewish Engagement at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, which sponsored the bus.


An open house begins at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the tuition-free charter school, 1300 SW 30th Ave., Boynton Beach. School staff will be on hand to provide information on academic and student support services, clubs and organizations. Admissions assistance will be available.Career academies include medical sciences, veterinary assisting, business management, digital film and broadcast, music and sound production, information technology, commercial arts, auto body repair, automotive technology, motorcycle technology, marine technology, cosmetology and culinary arts. The school provides students with honors classes, an expanded AP program and dual enrollment.


The Drama Department will present “Moon Over Buffalo” at 7 p.m. today through Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday. Performances are in the school’s Kathryn Lindgren Theatre, 1501 NW 15th Court. The school is partnering with the Delray Beach Historical Society for the fourth annual Halloween Fall Fest, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 on the historical society campus, 3 NE First St. The free event will include a haunted house, costume contest, games, a bake sale and refreshments.


The Palm Beach Poetry Festival has launched its annual high school poetry contest. Students can submit one original poem, 30 lines maximum, for consideration by Dec. 1. The winning poet will receive $200. Four runners-up will each receive $100. For details, visit
