A West Palm Beach man was ordered held on $300,000 bond Saturday after he allegedly fired a gun into the ground near his neighbor during a dispute.
Ben Black Jr., 42, remained in jail Saturday evening on charges of being a felon in posession of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm after a September incident on 8th Street.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the neighbor of Black’s has known him about 17 years and considers him a family friend. The neighbor and Black have had arguments over parking that have gotten physical but weren’t reported to police, the neighbor said.
When the neighbor was walking from his home to visit his family, Black allegedly said, “You think this is a joke?” and pulled out a handgun from pocket. Black began to raise the gun up and pulled the trigger, shooting into the ground.
A witness said he didn’t think Black was trying to shoot the neighbor.
Police brought in crime scene investigators, who did not find rounds or casings from any gunfire.
