UPDATE: Police ID two dead in murder-suicide on Singer Island

A 27-year-old man appears to have shot his 26-year-old girlfriend and then himself in a Singer Island apartment, according to city police.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Surf Road at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday where they found Richard Travis Timilty and Holly Given shot to death. Police said neighbors heard two shots around 12 a.m.

The building is off State Road A1A north of the Blue Heron Boulevard Bridge, on the Intracoastal Waterway side of the barrier island.

Police said the couple does not have any prior history of domestic calls that they know of. Investigators did not give any indication of motive. The investigation is on-going. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 561-845-4123 or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS (8477)

Given is at least the 96th homicide in Palm Beach County this year, according to a Palm Beach Post database. This is also the third murder-suicide attempt on Singer Island in as many years.

On Nov. 25 2015, 75-year-old Michael Singer and his wife 79-year-old wife Carmen Singer were found shot to death in their gated Cote D’Azur condominium complex on North Ocean Drive. Police said it was a murder-suicide.

On May 27, 2016, James Huhta stabbed his 79-year-old wife, Mary, to death and attempted to kill himself by overdosing on insulin. When he woke up, he said he felt hopeless then jumped from the second-floor balcony of their Eastpointe condominium on North Ocean Drive. He was eventually arrested and charged with her death but died before his trial.
