UPDATE: An earlier version of this story named a teenaged suspect in a shooting. It is the Post’s policy to not name suspects under 18 unless they are being charged as adults.
Port St. Lucie police on Saturday were searching for a 16-year-old accused of shooting another teen after an altercation.
Reports of gunfire first brought police to the Grove Apartments in the 2000 block of Southeast Lennard Road at about 3:15 p.m., shortly after witnesses say the two young men, both 16, got into a scuffle.
As of 8 p.m. Saturday investigators said they had not captured the suspect, whom police named, but whom the Post will not name due to him being under 18.
Witnesses said he left the area on foot, and police had initially thought he could be hiding in one of the apartments in the complex.
The victim’s relatives took him to a nearby hospital, where he was still being treated for his injuries Saturday night. Police did not release details on where or how many times he was shot.
Port St. Lucie police ask anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to call investigators at (772) 871-5001.
