NEW: Teen injured in shooting near gas station in Port St. Lucie

An 18-year-old man is being treated for gunshot wounds after a shooting in Port St. Lucie on Saturday morning, according to police.

City police officers were at a Valero gas station at about 2 a.m. when they heard gunshots coming from a nearby parking lot on the 800 block of Southwest Swan Avenue, just east of Florida’s Turnpike, according to Port St. Lucie Police Sgt. Frank Sabol.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found seven shell casings in the parking lot. Shortly after, another officer stopped the victim’s car — which had bullet holes in it — a few blocks away. Police found the victim sitting in the back seat with three gunshot wounds. Investigators said there were three people in the car when an unknown suspect fired at the vehicle with a handgun, hitting the teen in the arm, abdomen and chest.

The suspect fled the area, and the driver of the victim’s car left the scene to try and get medical treatment when officers stopped them. The victim is being treated at a local hospital, and police are still investigating.

Anyone with suspect information is asked to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at 772-871-5001 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477.
