A Port St. Lucie man is accused of threatening the life of a robbery victim while she was in court to testify against his son, according to an arrest report.
Peter Cartier, 42, is facing charges of tampering with a witness and extortion and was released from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting a $20,000 bond.
Cartier allegedly threatened the woman’s life after she spoke at a bond hearing at the jail Oct. 26 against Justin Cartier of West Palm Beach and Joann Orezi of Royal Palm Beach. They are accused of attempting to rob the victim and her friend at gunpoint in suburban West Palm Beach on Oct. 25.
Justin Cartier, 25, is also facing charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon by a felon after he fired the gun during the attempted robbery, the report said. He’s being held in jail on $250,000 bail.
After his son’s bond hearing, Peter Cartier walked by the robbery victim and allegedly told her that “she better fear for her life,” the report said. A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigator overheard the threat.
A court bailiff said he noticed the woman crying and looking afraid, according to the report. The woman then relayed the threat to the deputy and said she regretted testifying and was now in fear for the safety of herself and her family.
