NEW: Man accused of robbing Lake Worth bank by making bomb threat

A man remained in the Palm Beach County Jail early Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to rob a bank in Lake Worth on Sept. 1, according to an arrest report.

Michael Ovidio Carriegos, 48, of Lake Worth allegedly gave a bank employee at the Wells Fargo branch at Lake Avenue and Federal Highway a note that read, “I have a bomb. Give me three thousand dollars and I’ll leave,” the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report said.

Carriegos was given the money and ran away but didn’t get far. He was arrested a few blocks west of the bank and the stolen money was found in his pocket, the report said.

Carriegos, who allegedly gave a full confession to sheriff’s office detectives, is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail on a charge of robbery with a weapon.

Court records show that Carriegos is serving 18 months of probation after he pleaded guilty to forgery on May 10 for stealing from a Boca Raton printing business that had employed him as a manager.
