A Target employee is accused of stealing $27,000 in cash over several months from the Boynton Beach store, city police records state.

Kasey Lorgen, 20, was arrested last week on a larceny charge. A judge released him from the Palm Beach County Jail under supervision. He cannot have contact with any Target stores.

Lorgen told authorities Jan. 31 that he pocketed money when he closed out the cash registers at night. He also took money directly from the register and put it into his pockets, he said.

Surveillance-camera videos reportedly show the Royal Palm Beach man take cash out of bags before placing them into a safe in the back of the store on Congress Avenue, north of Old Boynton Road.

Lorgen told police he needed the money to pay for school and his bills. After work he would deposit the money in his Wells Fargo bank account, he said.

Lorgen said he was “very aware” that pocketing the money was illegal but claimed “he couldn’t help it,” according to an arrest report.

He does not appear to have a criminal history in Palm Beach County.
