LATEST: Jupiter man used box cutter to stab Clematis kava bar workers, police say

A 26-year-old Jupiter man is being held on $200,000 bail at the Palm Beach County Jail after he alleged stabbed two employees of a Clematis Street kava bar with a box cutter, according to an arrest report.

Witnesses who saw the attack early Saturday at the Te Mana Kava Bar ran down the alleged stabber, Thomas James Williamson, and held him until West Palm Beach police arrived.

Two employees were checking a back door at the business at about 1 a.m. when Williamson attacked them, the report said.

During the altercation, a 38-year-old employee sustained an 8-to-10-inch cut that ran from the left side of his neck, near the bottom of his left ear, to his left cheek, the report said.

Williamson allegedly placed the victim in a choke hold before stabbing him. The injured man was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he had surgery and has since been released, a hospital spokesman said.

A second employee sustained a 6-inch cut on the left side of his back after being stabbed, the report said.

Williamson allegedly dropped the box cutter just outside the front door of the business and ran west on Clematis, toward Rosemary Avenue.

A group of patrons who saw the attack ran down the fleeing Williamson and held him until police arrived.

Williamson told police he couldn’t recall the entire incident or stabbing the victims, the report said.

While explaining his actions to police, Williamson “started acting out his actions of placing the victim in a choke hold, holding the box cutter in his right hand and slicing across the victim’s neck,” the report said.

Police say Williamson lives in Jupiter, although jail records show he has a Georgia address. A records search shows that Williamson has previously lived in Jupiter at an address on Maplecrest Circle, off Military Trail.
