City police are searching for a group of juveniles suspected of causing a panic Monday at The Gardens Mall when at least one allegedly lit fireworks inside the indoor shopping center.
The incident happened at about 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the mall near the Nordstrom store, said Maj. Paul Rogers, spokesman for city police. Police investigators and mall security are reviewing surveillance-camera footage and following “strong investigative leads,” he said.
Police neither said how many juveniles were involved nor released any descriptions. One man sustained minor injuries when he fell and scraped his knees, Rogers said.
The fireworks appears to have been set off as a prank, but Rogers warned that those responsible could face severe consequences.
“We’re taking this very seriously,” he said. “Anytime there’s a disturbance in a large public area that causes panic, we’re going to take it seriously.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department at (561) 799-4445.
